There are so many people and organizations to thank, I will try to list them at the end of this short reprise of the weekend of August 11th & 12 on the Southside of the Huntington Beach Pier.
195 bodysurfers and 51 handplaners made 2018 a banner year for the Chubascos Bodysurfing Association’s 11th annual beach party and head-to-head competition. Starting at 7am Saturday with the Masters Men and finishing with awards by 2pm Sunday, we crowned three new Grand Champions for 2018. All the finalists received plaques plus swag from our new Corporate Sponsor – DMC Fins – headed by our past Grand Champion Don McCredie. Every competitor received a contest tee shirt (for those who needed a size which had run out, Coach Mark is on it). Artwork was by our inimitable Froggy – Bill Schiledge:
Our Grand Champions came from France, Hawaii and California:
Women’s Champ – Makena Magro from Oahu HI
Men’s Champ – Nathan Lehoux from Biarritz RF
Handplaning Champ – Dave Ford from Ojai CA
Coming from afar meant these Grand Champions have to figure out shipping details for the massive trophies created by HB Tiki guru Bamboo Ben.
Not to be out done, Mrs. Bamboo designed and produced the finalists’ plaques for the top 6 finishers in every age.
All Junior Lifeguards really scored. In addition to the free tee shirts, donuts and pizza, each junior guard received a free pair of DMC Repellor fins. Other swag came from Slyde Handboards, Tubeshredder Handboards, and DaFin.
Ace photographer Froggy started a rumor that DMC Fins will soon be selling Shark Fin soup, attracting baby Great Whites willing to trade their barely grown fins for the powerful Repellor Fins.
Legends Champ Larry Erman negotiated rights to corner the market of shark fin soup on behalf of President Trump in his trade war with China
Aussie McCredie tempted the sharks onto land with the unlimited pizza provided by the Chubascos.
World Peace through Bodysurfing Diplomacy. Ping Pong is so 20th Century.
